Why sell forest land?
- Each forest has its certain age
A proverb says that mature forest cannot become more mature. Mature forest loses its value because old trees are sensitive to different diseases, pests and windbreakage.
- Self-management is complicated
Forest management on one’s own is a time-consuming and complicated activity. When the owner wants to do some cutting work in his forest, he needs an effective forest management plan, he has to apply for a cutting licence, have equipment and workmen. This all requires thorough knowledge in the area, organisation skills, a lot of energy and free time. We have all the required facilities and as our work capacities are big, our purchase prices are also high and the transport and cutting costs are lower.
- Exaggerated risk
Having a forest immovable is a risky business. For example, when the owner of the neighbouring plot has his immovable clear cut, this creates the hazard of windbreakage because your mature forest may remain in the wind corridor. When your immovable is located by a lake or a river, beavers may come and settle down there. A beaver is able to fell a tree with the diameter of 5–7 cm within two minutes, a three with the diameter of 10–12 cm will take one night. When your forest immovable is located near public areas, there is a hazard of forest fires on warm and dry summer days. Each year tens of hectares of forests are burnt down in Estonia.
